Sleep and more sleep!

You know your smartphone addiction has reached an entirely new level of unhealthy when you can’t hit the pillow at night without it beside you. 

People love to use their electronic devices in the bedroom — and who can blame them when we have so many small gadgets that offer us news articles, e-books and games in one tiny package? And if you use your smartphone as an alarm clock, chances are high you’re literally going to bed with some form of electronic device — and you aren’t alone.

Recently scientists have discovered that our current chronic sleep deprivation is often linked to these devices being allowed in our sleep space. The artificial blue light emitted from electronic devices like cell phones, smartphones and tablets mimics daylight, convincing the brain that it is still daytime and therefore affects our ability to fall asleep. Plus, this light disrupts the body’s production of melatonin, the hormone that is produced naturally in darkness and helps regulate sleep.

Just think about how many more Zzs you can log each night without your smartphone distracting you from just how tired you really are. So banish your smartphone from the bedroom and rediscover the joy of waking up to the old fashion alarm clock. Undergo a digital detox and keep your bedroom as a sanctuary reserved for sleep, revelling in its peace and quiet.
